David Dhawan, the master of slapstick comedy brings together two of his favourite stars - Salman Khan and Govinda - in his film 'Partner'. Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta are the film's leading ladies.
Quite unexpectedly, Salman Khan is not paired with his real-life girlfriend Katrina Kaif in the film. Kats is Govinda's love interest. And Lara Dutta is paired with Salman.
'Partner' has Salman playing a love guru called Prem, an expert on women who helps lonely souls find their soul mates. Govinda plays Bhaskar, a useless soul looking for a mate.
Bhaskar is a nerd who has a big crush on the most beautiful and eligible socialite in town, Priya Jaisingh (Katrina Kaif), a rich heiress. But he doesn't know a thing about how to impress a woman.
To woo the woman of his dreams, Bhaskar seeks the guidance of the Love Guru, Prem. At first, Prem is utterly disappointed to see how ignorant Bhaskar is about women, but then he takes him under his wing.
Overnight, Prem transfers Bhaskar from a nerd to a dude. He teaches him how to talk and walk and impress women. Without the slightest delay, Bhaskar puts all of Prem's guidance into practice and starts wooing Priya.
On the other hand, Prem, the love guru finds himself strongly drawn towards Naina, a journalist. Naina, on her part, wants to expose the myth of Love Guru. She is not a girl who would easily fall for the charm of the love guru. Soon, Prem finds all his methods (that he taught his students) failing in the case of Naina.
In the meantime, Bhaskar makes progress with Priya. But what Priya doesn't know is that Bhaskar is not the man he shows himself to be.
The two love stories get messy as both the protagonists rely on lies and deceit to win the love of their respective women. What happens next? Will Bhaskar and Prem win the hearts of their ladyloves.
'Partner' is strongly inspired from director Andy Tennant's Hollywood movie 'Hitch' (2005), a romantic comedy featuring Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James and Amber Valleta.
David Dhawan doesn't deny that 'Partner' is inspired from 'Hitch', but he makes it clear that the comedy in 'Partner' is not lifted from 'Hitch'.
'Partner' also has Rajpal Yadav playing a funny character called Chhota Don. The character is a spoof on Shah Rukh Khan's character in 'Don'.
Produced by Sohail Khan and K Sera Sera, 'Partner' has music by Sajid-Wajid.
