SCOOP!! & NEWS Prithvi Theatre Festival in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore in November22nd Oct 2004 15.40 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Prithvi Theatre Festival will this year move to Delhi and Bangalore, showing over 70 performances including 14 new productions from Mumbai, and focus on the works of veteran artist Habib Tanvir. Festival Director Sanjana Kapoor announced this at a press conference at Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The festival, to be held from November 1 to 28 simultaneously at Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore, would also focus on the works of Habib Tanvir's Naya Theatre, which has contributed over 40 eventful years to theatre in India. Seven of Naya Theatre's productions including a revival of the landmark 'Agra Bazar' would be staged. Besides, on November 8 and 9 larger concerns and areas connected to the works of Naya Theatre will be explored through discussions, workshops and lecture-demonstrations on music in theatre, film screenings and face-to-face sessions where the audience will have a chance to directly talk to Mr Tanvir about his plays. Jana Natya Manch has played an instrumental role in developing the Festival's focus on Mr Tanvir and Naya Theatre. Janam will also bring out an issue of their quarterly publication 'Nukkad Janam Samvad' to coincide with the festival. This issue will be based on the works and times of the legendary theatre personality. Ahead of the festival, an exhibition on Naya Theatre will open at Horniman Circle Garden in South Mumbai for two weeks from October 29. Six to eight publications of Mr Tanvir's scripts in Hindi, Urdu, Chhatisgadi and English will be released at the exhibition. These scripts will be on sale through out the festival. Parts of Prithvi Festival 2004 will travel to Bangalore (November 15-21) in collaboration with Rang Sankara, and Delhi (November 20-28) in association with Old World Culture at the Habitat Centre. Another theatre group, Adishakti would host and partly conduct a six-day workshop along with Italy's art group Loghi dell' Arte, which is coming down for the festival. During the workshop, 18 actors from across the country would watch theatre and exchange ideas.
