What is it that makes him so good at the art of hilarity? Comedy is the present flavour of the season in Bollywood. The last weekend saw the release of two comedy films – Phir Hera Pheri and Chup Chup Ke – both of which feature Paresh Rawal. 
In a press conference in Mumbai, Paresh and Johnny Lever spoke about the skills and secrets of tickling the funny bone. Rawal said the most important thing in doing comedy is “to maintain the innocence of a character”. To bring home his point, Rawal gave an example of Kishore Kumar , his personal favourite, and said that the sweetness of Kishorda came across despite whatever character he played. It can be said that Rawal has done the same to his character Baburao in Hera-Pheri and its sequel. Rawal said: “When doing tragedy, a moment seems eternal but in comedy, eternity is a moment. If you miss the point, you have lost the result.” Agreeing with him, Johnny Lever, said: “Comedy is serious business and it is even more difficult, because it is a very delicate subject. Going even a little overboard can spoil the fun. Also, simple humour gets more response than hardcore cheap-stakes.” Lever’s comedy in ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ has been appreciated by the audience and critics.
