Sanjay Dutt , who is presently serving a prison sentence in a Pune jail, plays a police officer in his next Bollywood release. Before his verdict in the Mumbai blasts case, Sanjay Dutt made sure he completed the shooting of producer Ashok Thakeria’s comedy film Dhamaal . 
Directed by Indra Kumar , the movie has Dutt playing a cop. Ritesh Deshmukh , Arshad Warsi , Javed Jaffery and Aashish Chowdhary play the main roles. Ritesh plays a scrupulous detective and Arshad plays a man with inadequate bookish knowledge. Javed Jaffery plays an idiot and Aashish plays a fearful man scared of his father. Together, the quartet makes a living out of odd con jobs. But then lady-luck smiles on them and they get to know about huge money hidden in a secret place. But the law, in the form of a cop (Sanjay Dutt), is close on their trail. In the film, Dutt plays a man who is desperate for his promotion in police department. ‘Dhamaal’ promises a laugh riot. Its tagline says: “You will die laughing”. Apparently, this will be the last release of Dutt after his prison sentence. His other films on the floors were Alibag and Mr. Fraud for which he shot certain portions only.
