HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | BOLLYWOOD Comedy and horror on Bollywood platter this Friday06th Sept 2007 23.18 IST By Aparajita Ghosh If you want to get spooked or want to get your funny bone tickled, the two movie releases on Friday would do the needful. A comedy film and a horror flick are this weekend’s offering from the tinsel town.
Holding out the promise of unadulterated entertainment is Indra Kumar’s Dhamaal , starring Arshad Warsi , Ritesh Deshmukh , Javed Jaffrey , Ashish Choudhary and Sanjay Dutt . The movie tells the story of four friends who make their living out of odd con jobs. Arshad plays a man who thinks he knows everything, but all his knowledge creates more problems than solutions. Ritesh plays a guy who believes he was born to be the best detective. Javed Jaffrey plays an idiot who is unaware that he is one. Ashish plays a guy who is fearful of everyone. One day, lady-luck smiles on them when a dying man tells them about huge money hidden somewhere. The dying man is a gangster on the most-wanted list of a cop, played by Sanjay Dutt. As the four idiots try to find out the millions, the cop is close on their trail. The movie’s director Indra Kumar showed his ability to make an entertaining comedy with Masti a few years ago. His last film Pyare Mohan did not garner good response from the audience. But ‘Dhamaal’ promises to be different. Sanjay Dutt has already seen the movie at a special screening and he is said to have liked the film a lot. If comedy is not what you are looking for then you have the option of watching Darling , a horror film directed by Ram Gopal Varma . After the last week’s horrible experience of watching Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag , one would think twice before venturing into a theatre showing a film that bears Ramu’s name as the director. But then ‘Darling’ may surprise you. Firstly, the film is not a usual horror film. There are no gory ghosts in it. Secondly, because it is not produced by Ramu himself, the maverick filmmaker may not have given himself a free hand to do his characteristic experimentation. ‘Darling’ stars Fardeen Khan , Esha Deol and Isha Koppikar in main roles. The film has Fardeen playing a man married to Isha Koppikar. But he has a secret affair with his secretary (Esha Deol) in the office. While Fardeen enjoys the best of both the worlds, he hardly thinks over the consequences of his actions. But then, the secretary dies in an unfortunate incident. Later, she returns as a ghost to haunt him. And only he can see and hear her ghost. Of the two films – ‘Dhamaal’ and ‘Darling’ – trade pundits believe the former has an upper hand. First, the debacle of ‘RGV Ki Aag’ has dented the filmmaker’s reputation. Secondly, statistics show that comedy films have been drawing huge crowds at the theatres lately. The success of Partner and Heyy Babyy goes to prove it.
