HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | HAPPENINGS Working in 'The Last Lear' was a refreshing change for Arjun Rampal04th Sept 2008 09.00 IST By Agencies Arjun Rampal , who plays a film director in Rituparno Ghosh 's The Last Lear said on Wednesday that working on the film was a "refreshing change". "All the mainstream actors myself, Amitabh Bachchan , Preity Zinta gave ourselves to a non-commercial director as we believed in the unusual script. Besides, the film being in English language was another novelty," Arjun said.
He said, "We did the film out of passion and love for doing it. We were not thinking whether we are making a blockbuster film or doing a promotional video. We were true to ourselves and brave enough to do the film." Arjun said he did not want to get into the debate of commercial versus art movies. "Every film has an audience. All kind of genre can co-exist with each other. This gives actors an opportunity to explore different kinds of genre and grow as actors," he added. Arjun did not think that the film's theatrical release has been delayed. 'The Last Lear' releases on September 12. "I was shooting for Om Shanti Om and 'The Last Lear' simultaneously. After the film's completion, it was screened at different festivals all across the globe in the last one year. The audience gave a standing ovation to the film. It was such an overwhelming response," he said. "For the theatre going audience, 'The Last Lear' is a fresh film and delay on over a year in its theatrical release will not affect its box office performance," he added. Replying to questions, Arjun admitted that 'Om Shanti Om' was a milestone in his career. "It was definitely a defining moment for me. The success of Rock On has also been very encouraging," he said. Arjun said 'Rock On' was described as a very urban and multiplex film due to its unusual music and starcast. "But, the success of the film is an encouragement and opens lot of avenues to independent producers like me," he added. Arjun, who produced I See U couple of years ago, said he was planning to get into film production in a big way. "I am in talks with a couple of people and will announce my plans as soon as they are finalised," he said. Speaking about his forthcoming films, Arjun said, 'EMI' with Sanjay Dutt will release this Diwali. Besides, I am shooting for Deepak Tijori 's 'Fox' with Sunny Deol . "This is a thriller. I play a lawyer who has taken a sabbatical in Goa and gets into trouble when he reaches there," he said. Arjun said he was eagerly awaiting the launch of Rajniti which goes on floors early next year. "I have tremendous respect for Prakash Jha 's sensibilities as a filmmaker. I play a new age politician in the film. It is an important project with a huge starcast," he added.
