SCOOP!! & NEWS What a mediocre ‘Insan’!14th Jan 2005 22.27 IST By Nitika Desai Mediocrity is personified in the Keshu Ramsey-produced Insan. The movie, directed by K Subhash, is replete with all possible Bollywood clichés. The writer of this movie has stuffed the story with so many ingredients that Insan becomes more like a donkey carrying a heavy load. The film is full of clichés like rich girl-poor guy romance, terrorism, a patriotic cop, a wayward youngster who turns jehadi and…The list goes on. 
The movie stars a host of Bollywood actors like Akshay Kumar , Ajay Devgan , Esha Deol , Lara Dutta , Koena Mitra , Tusshar Kapoor and the newcomer Laila . In the film, Akshay plays an autorickshaw driver named Amjad who is in love with a rich girl Heena (Esha). Although a pauper, Amjad is a man with a big heart. But Heena’s parents don’t approve of him. On the other hand is a cop Ajit (Ajay) who is on the trail of a man named Azhar, who killed Ajit’s wife. By the twist of fate Azhar happens to the lost brother of Amjad. As drama builds up Azhar takes hostage the passengers of a train and demands the release of his leader Masood from prison. It is then Amjad and Ajit join hands to fight the evil ones. Insan is as kitschy as a movie can get. There are ample dream sequence songs to spice up the narrative and there is a delectable blend of action, romance and comedy to invoke a roaring applause from the frontbenchers. Sadly for the frontbenchers, Koena is clad neck-to-toe in this movie, while Esha doesn’t offer much in terms of acting or otherwise. Lara is spunky, but shows few feminine qualities. Insan becomes less torturous because of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan. Akshay keeps the mood upbeat with his comedy while Ajay adds intensity with his charged-up performance.
